Blue Starfish

Linckia laevigata

The starfish shown is actually one of the feeders that I gave to my harlequin shrimp to eat, not my pet blue linckia, who lives in my reef tank.

My pet linckia is unfortunately pretty camera shy, you can never get a full shot of him because he is huge (8" diameter!) and usually lurking somewhere in back, crawling around in the live rock with his little tube feet. They are relatively low maintenance animals that search for their own food and do not like to be bothered. The one thing I would caution is that like all stars, they need a long acclimatization period when first introduced, on the order of over an hour at least of floating with a drip from the new tank water.
